When an acid wash makes sense
- Stubborn algae stains after a green pool cleanup
- Mineral or metal stains across large areas
- Heavy calcium scale
- Very high calcium or stabilizer where you're draining anyway
The process
- Drain the pool (timing matters in Texas heat to protect the plaster)
- Apply diluted acid section by section and rinse
- Neutralize and remove the wash water properly
- Refill and carefully balance the new water during start-up
When it's not the right call
- Vinyl liner and most fiberglass pools should not be acid washed
- Thin or worn plaster may need resurfacing instead
- Frequent acid washing shortens plaster life, so we'll tell you if a gentler option will work

Frequently Asked Questions
How often can a pool be acid washed?
Sparingly. Each wash removes some plaster, so it's typically an occasional treatment.
How long is the pool out of service?
Usually a few days including drain, wash and refill, depending on fill rate.
Will it remove every stain?
It removes most surface stains; deep or metal stains may need other treatments.
Do I need permission to drain?
Check any local or HOA rules on draining; we'll talk this through before scheduling.
